Because of modern scientific advances, scientists claim that it is possible that some children who are presently alive may live to be 1,000 years old. Before the world-wide flood in Noah’s days, the Scriptures tell us that some people lived nearly 1,000 years. God, the Creator, not scientists, has power over life and death. Prophecy reveals that people will live to the age of a tree during the thousand year reign of Jesus on Earth. But, those who refuse to repent and follow God will be plagued with disease and death during the prophesied seven-year Tribulation and during the millennial (1,000 years) reign of Jesus on Earth.
Many scientists are claiming that modern advances in science will continue to increase the age that people live till:
“Professor Rudi Westendorp has predicted the first person to live to 135 has been born, but other scientists have gone further and declared that we have already seen the birth of the first person who will live to 1,000” (1)
Life expectancy has increased from age 40 to 80 in the developed countries of the world since 1900. Scientists say that increased life expectancy is because of increased food, clean drinking water, and elimination or restraint of infectious diseases. Proper nutrition in a balanced diet has helped increase life.
Also, many people have become aware of the dangers of smoking and drinking liquor. Of course, many scientists say that it is oaky to consume some liquor. But, informed Christians know that the Scriptures command us to abstain from these corrupting vises, like smoking and liquor, that can harm our body, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Proverbs 23:29-35.
Advanced technology and knowledge in the medical field also prevents many people from dying because of heart attacks and diseases. Many scientists are working on methods to manipulate people’s DNA. Methods are being developed to remove disease tendencies and defective characteristics from the DNA in a person’s body. This can be accomplished even before a baby is born.
Jewish scientists have made many advances in most scientific fields, including the medical field. Scientists are claiming credit for longer life expectancy, but the truth is that God holds the power of life and death in His hands. Scientists tend to forget or deny God, the Creator. If God did not create scientists with a brain, they could not make any scientific advances to prolong life. Some scientists claim that they do not believe in God because they cannot see Him. But, we cannot see the brain of a Scientist. Since we cannot see their brain, does that mean that they do not have a brain? Some scientists act like they do not have a brain. But, we know that they have a brain, just like complex design in creation is evidence of God the Creator. One cell in our body is more complex than a space shuttle. Cells do not happen by evolutionary accident any more than space shuttles happen by accident.
Before the world-wide flood in Noah’s days, the Scriptures tell us that some people lived nearly 1,000 years. God especially allowed those who served Him to live longer. Methuselah lived to be 969 years old.
Genesis 5:25-29 “And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech: 26 And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters: 27 And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years [969]: and he died. 28 And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son: 29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.”
It appears that the curse, due to sin, on our bodies and other things shortened the life of people after the flood. Also, God has limited the life of most people as He sees fit. Psalms talks about how age 70 is the average age and that 80 is the exception, Psalms 90:9-10.
God the Creator, not scientists, has power over life and death:
God sent word by Isaiah the prophet to Hezekiah, king of Judah, that he was about to die. Hezekiah prayed and asked God to let him live longer. When Hezekiah prayed for longer life, he told God how that he walked with God by obeying the truth of God’s Word. Hezekiah said that the goal of his heart was to please God. Hezekiah also said that he always did good so as to please God. Apparently, what Hezekiah said about himself was true. As a result of Hezekiah’s prayer, God added 15 years onto his life, 2 Kings 20:1-6.
God made a promise to the Jews that their days could be prolonged if they honor their parents. Also, the Jews were promised to have a better life in the Promised Land if they honored their parents. It would seem that this same promise would apply to Gentiles who honor their parents. By honoring their parents, Gentiles are more likely to live longer and have a better life wherever they are living in the world. In modern times, the lives of many children will be cut short because they disobey and dishonor their parents, Ephesians 6:1-3.
Deuteronomy 5:16 “Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”
God has often cut the life of people short because of rebellion against His Word. God expects us to serve Him in obedience to the Scripture. If we try to serve God the way that we want to serve Him, instead of the way that we are commanded, it is an act of rebellion. Two sons of Aaron chose to serve God the wrong way. They offered strange fire before the Lord. As a result of their rebellion, God cut their life short. Just because a person is religious, this does not mean that they will be accepted by God. You must come to God and serve God His way, not your way!
Leviticus 10:1-2 “And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. 2 And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.”
Prophecy reveals that people will live to the age of a tree during the thousand year reign of Jesus on Earth.
Isaiah 65:18-23 “But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. 19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying. 20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed. 21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. 22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. ”
The stress of sorrow and worry often shortens the lives of people. The Jews have faced many sorrows in the past and present. The Jews continue to worry about their future as a people and a nation. But, when King Jesus rules from Jerusalem, the Jewish remnant who have trusted in Jesus as their Saviour will finally be filled with joy. Sorrow will flee like the shadows flee with the rising sun. The Son of God, Jesus, will rise to rule the chosen people, the Jews. Worry will be replaced by faith in Jesus, their Saviour, to protect them and their children, Isaiah 65:18.
When Jesus rules on Earth for one thousand years, the Jews will not have to worry about terrorists attacking them like rattlesnakes crawling threw tunnels anymore. Their homes and businesses will no longer be threatened by evil suicide bombers. Destructive rocket attacks will be a thing of the past. The Jewish children will be so safe that they can play with rattlesnakes without any harm from the snakes. In fact, no wild beast will harm each other or the people of God. It appears that at least part of the curse for sin will be removed during the reign of Christ on Earth, Isaiah 65:19, 25.
There will not be any lives cut short by abortion. Infants will be properly cared for and grow up healthy. Men and women will live for a long time. There will not be any thing unaccomplished because of a short life. But, there will still be death among those who are flesh and blood. Of course, those ruling with King Jesus who have received their glorified bodies will never die. There will still be sinners on Earth during the thousand year reign of Jesus. These sinners will be born to those who survive through the Tribulation and go into the thousand year reign of Jesus. They will need to get saved just like we do today. But, with Satan locked up during the thousand year reign, sin will not be as wide-spread and aggressive as it is now. Even though death caused by the curse due to sin will be present, it will not happen as quickly as it does in our present times. The prophecy of life without any death will not happen until time turns into eternity. Eternity without time will begin when there is a new Heaven and a new Earth. This will be introduced by New Jerusalem coming down to the new Earth, Revelation 21:1-4; Isaiah 65:20.
The Jews will no longer be stressed out about where they are going to live. They will finally have full possession of the Promised Land. They will build their homes on the land and live in peace and comfort. When they plant crops, the crops will flourish in abundance. They will have more than enough food to eat. It will not be tainted by pesticides and other deadly poisons that cut life short. Diseases and other things that afflict and destroy the bodies of God’s people will be defeated by King Jesus. He is the master physician, Amos 9:13-15; Isaiah 35:4-10; Isaiah 65:21.
The Jews will no longer have to be concerned about Muslims trying to take their homes. In the past, the homes of Jews have been pushed down to make room for Arab Palestinians who had no right to the land. The Jews will live in their own homes, undisturbed by enemies. They will eat their abundant supply of food. The Jews, God’s elect, will live a long life, like a tree, during the thousand year reign of Jesus. Many of the Jews will live the full thousand years, Isaiah 65:22.
A few years back, we went to the Sequoia tree forest in California. We gazed at the grand old ‘General Sherman’ Sequoia tree. There are many amazing trees in the Sequoia forest. When Isaiah refers to the Jews living to the age of a tree, it is easy to understand after seeing these giant, old Sequoia trees.
“The tree called ‘General Sherman’ is not only the biggest giant sequoia, but it is also the biggest tree in the world. [It] is 83.8 m (274.9 feet) tall, [its] girth at breast height is 24,10 m (79 feet) (near the ground it is 31,3 m or 102,6 feet). The width of the crown is 33 m, and the first branch starts only at 40 m or 130 feet!
For a long time, it was thought that this tree had reached an age of 2000 to 3000 years…. Research from 2002 has shown that [it] is probably ‘only’ about 2000 years old.” (2)
The picture of the men climbing the tree above, in this article, is a Sequoia tree called the ‘President’.
“On a gentle slope above a trail junction in Sequoia National Park, about 7,000 feet above sea level in the southern Sierra Nevada, looms a very big tree. Its trunk is rusty red, thickened with deep layers of furrowed bark, and 27 feet in diameter at the base. Its footprint would cover your dining room. Trying to glimpse its tippy top, or craning to see the shape of its crown, could give you a sore neck. That is, this tree is so big you can scarcely look at it all. It has a name, the President, bestowed about 90 years ago by admiring humans. It’s a giant sequoia, a member of Sequoiadendron giganteum, one of several surviving species of redwoods.” (3)
Those people who refuse to repent and follow God will be plagued with disease during the prophesied seven-year Tribulation and during the millennial (1,000 years) reign of Jesus on Earth.
We are told in prophecy that a plague will consume the flesh of those who oppose Israel and God during the prophesied seven-year Tribulation period. Scientists and doctors will not have a cure for this deadly plague. Ebola will be like a picnic in comparison to these coming deadly plagues of judgment. God will bring sudden death on those who continue to rebel against Him. Life and death is in the hands of God, not men.
Zechariah 14:12 “And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.”
During the Tribulation, God will cause sores to fester on those who take the Mark of the Beast. With all of their medical knowledge, men will not be able to cure these painful, festering sores. These ungodly people will choose to worship the image of the Anti-Christ. Therefore, they must pay the consequences of their unholy sin. The pain will be so great that they will bite their own tongues. There will not be any relief from this tormenting pain. These rebels will curse God, and they will never repent of their sins. Because God is holy, He cannot allow sin to go unpunished.
Revelation 16:2, 10-11 “And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image. 10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, 11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.”
There will still be sinners on Earth during the thousand year reign of Jesus. Some of these will refuse to come up and worship King Jesus. They will first be punished for disobedience with a lack of rain, for drinking water and crops. If they still refuse to come up to worship King Jesus in Jerusalem, they will face a horrible plague causing death to the rebels.
Zechariah 14:16-18 “And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. 17 And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain. 18 And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.”
Many scientists and doctors are trying to achieve eternal life without God. God has allowed them to make advances in helping people to live longer. But, only God holds life and death in His control. It is not likely that anyone with flesh and blood will live one thousand years before the thousand year reign of Jesus. We seem to be at the very door of the Rapture, followed by the prophesied seven-year Tribulation. World events appear to be quickly approaching a climax indicating that end time prophecy is about to be fulfilled. God is the only one who can give eternal life. You must repent of your sins and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour to receive eternal life. You cannot earn eternal life by doing good deeds. Call on Jesus to save you. Acknowledge to God, by prayer, that you are a sinner who displeases God and that you are putting your full trust in Jesus to save you form the penalty of sin in Hell, Isaiah 53; Romans 3:10-12; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:8; Romans 5:12; Romans 6:23; Romans 10:9-13. You will live forever and prosper if you know Jesus as your Saviour!
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
