Recently, many Ultra-Orthodox Jews have expressed their outrage because a Church in Jerusalem was trying to present Jesus Christ to the Jewish visitors. We certainly can understand outrage if Jesus is being presented in the wrong way. The Jesus Christ presented by the Catholic Church and many of the protestant churches is not the Jesus Christ of the King James Bible. Many of these churches use corrupt Bibles and teach false doctrine about Jesus Christ and salvation. But, one day, Jesus Christ will return and we hope that the Ultra-Orthodox Jews and others will be prepared to meet Him.
Many Jews are seeking the truth about who Jesus is. But, there are some Jews who try to prevent other Jews from discovering the truth about Jesus, the Saviour. The annual Jerusalem Light Festival was an opportunity for churches to present the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Jews of Israel.
“Ultra-Orthodox Jewish anti-missionary groups were up in arms last week after a number of fellow Israeli Jews visited Christ Church, the oldest Protestant Church in the Middle East, during the annual Jerusalem Light Festival.” (1)
As in the past, there are present-day Jews who deny Jesus and stand in the way of those who are seeking salvation through Jesus Christ, the Saviour.
Matthew 23:15 “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.”
The scribes were a group of Jews who were very intelligent, they wrote and taught the law. The Pharisees were a group of self-righteous Jews who followed very strict customs and traditions. They separated themselves from other Jews because they thought that they were holier than the other Jews. But, in truth they were hypocrites because it is impossible for any normal man or woman to keep the laws of God perfectly. We all break God’s law sometimes. This is why we are all sinners who need a Saviour. Those Jews who die without receiving Jesus as their Saviour will face the torments of Hell forever. Sadly, like the Pharisees in the Scriptures, the Ultra-Orthodox Jews are trying to persuade other Jews to join them in their sect. Those Jews who become proselytes of the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish sect are doomed to Hell unless they repent and believe on Jesus as their Saviour before they die, Matthew 23:15.
If we try to please God with our own righteousness to be with Him in eternity, we will not be allowed to be with God in eternity. Our righteousness fails to meet God’s high standard of righteousness. Our righteousness is like a filthy rag to God.
Isaiah 64:6-7 “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. 7 And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.”
Our sins separate us from God. Because God is holy without sin, He cannot accept us as we are. Our sin must be judged and paid for, Isaiah 64:6-7.
Isaiah 53:11 “He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.”
Jesus allowed His soul to go through trials and tribulation for our sins. God was satisfied with the sacrifice that Jesus made to pay the penalty for our sins. Only Jesus could pay for our sins because He is a righteous servant of God. Jesus is without sin. Jesus has complete knowledge of the Scriptures, including the law of God. Jesus followed the law of God to the letter, without failure. We only need to break one law of God to be a law breaker. All of us transgress against God’s law. We cannot satisfy God because we are not without sin. When we repent and believe on Jesus as our Saviour, God counts us just as if we never sin. It was prophesied that Jesus would bear our sins on the cross, and He did, Isaiah 53:11.
We encourage every Jew and Gentile to seek Jesus before it is too late. Also, we encourage the Ultra-Orthodox Jews and those who are considering following them to reconsider Jesus. It is time to quit trusting in your own righteousness, and start trusting in the righteousness that Jesus has provided for you. Repent and believe on Jesus as your Saviour. Call on Jesus in prayer and ask Him to save you from the penalty of your sins.
