Chruch of God Jews And Gentiles

The church of God is not the Gentile church, as some call it. It is wrong to call the church of God the Gentile Church! There is not one place in the Scriptures where the church is called the Gentile Church. Since it is not in the Scriptures, it is a false teaching. Some Gentile Christians in the church do not mean any harm by calling it the Gentile Church, but it can be harmful. Many of them may call it the Gentile Church because it is presently the Time of the Gentiles. During this Time of the Gentiles, it appears that more Gentiles are being saved than Jews. There are some prideful Gentile Christians who believe that the Gentile Christians have replaced Israel because of Israel’s past rebellion. They use the term Gentile Church to belittle the Jews. Many of those who use the term Gentile Church are anti-Semitic. They have a hate for the Jews. But, in fact, they should love all Jews and try to reach them with God’s salvation plan. The Gentiles of the church owe a debt to the Jews in several ways! I will list four of these ways below.

Matthew 18:15-17 “Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.”

First, Gentile Christians, who are a part of the church, owe the Jewish disciples for writing down the guidelines for running a local church. Jesus first gave Jewish disciples the guidelines for running a local church, not Gentiles. Jesus taught His Jewish disciples how to solve problems in the local church.

Second, Gentile Christians owe a debt of gratitude to those faithful Jewish writers of the Scriptures. God used Jews to write down the New Testament Scriptures that bring the truth of God to both Jews and Gentiles.

Acts 2:5 “And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.” Acts 2:47 “Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”

Third, it is a mistake to think that the church is a Gentile church, because there are many Jews in the Church of God! Jesus is the head of the church, and the founding fathers of the church are the Jewish disciples of Jesus. At Pentecost, Jews came from nations all over the world and became a part of the church of God. During this Time of the Gentiles, many Gentiles are becoming a part of the church, but also, many Jews continue to become a part of the church.

Revelation 5:5-6 “And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. 6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.”

Finally, Gentiles owe a debt to the Jews because Jesus is a Jew from the tribe of Juda, according to the flesh. The Gentiles are the wild olive tree branches grafted into the natural olive tree, the Jews. The church consists of both Jews and Gentiles during this present Time of the Gentiles. The Gentile Christians of the world need to be thankful to the Jews. It is time to quit being arrogant and prideful. Gentile Christians need to humble themselves before the Jewish Lamb of God who humbled Himself for the salvation of sinful mankind.

Acts 20:28 “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”

It is important to be correct on the doctrine of the church. It is the church of God, not the Gentile church. The blood of Jesus was shed to purchase both Jews and Gentiles from the penalty of sin. The shed blood of Jesus is sufficient to pay for the sins of all mankind. Jesus did not shed His blood for just one local church nor did He die just for the Gentiles. Both Jews and Gentiles continue to come into the church by having the blood of Jesus applied to their sins. During the Time of the Gentiles, it appears that there are more Gentiles being saved than Jews, but during Daniel’s prophesied seventieth week, that will change. The natural branch, the Jews, will be grafted back onto the root of life, Jesus, the Messiah.
